Its development affects the economic development pattern of Asia and the world. In order to better understand the development status and future trends of the Indian industrial textile industry, the China Industrial Textile Industry Association and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Textile Branch participated in the 2019 Indian Industrial Textiles and Nonwovens Exhibition hosted by Frankfurt Exhibition Company (India) (TTI2019) and related activities, and conducted in-depth communication and exchanges with exhibitors. The research is summarized below.
Overall overview of 1. India
Located in South Asia, India is the largest country in the South Asian subcontinent.East of the Bay of Bengal, west of the Arabian Sea, 5560km long coastline.Land area of 2.98 million square kilometers, the total population of 1.37 billion, accounting for 18% of the total global population. It is composed of more than 100 ethnic groups, the main ethnic group is Hindustan.India's gross domestic product (GDP) reached $2.73 trillion billion in 2018, with a growth rate of 7.4 per cent, making it one of the fastest growing emerging economies in the world. Its economy is industrially diversified, covering agriculture, handicrafts, textiles and services. The textile industry is the second largest industry after agriculture, and about 26% of India's output comes from textiles. The country's top five states related to the textile industry are Gujarat, Punjab, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.Among them, the Mundra District of Gujarat State and parts of southern India have set up special economic zones for industrial textiles and non-woven industries.According to relevant reports, India currently has a 0.8 billion of young people under the age of 35, which can provide abundant labor resources for the textile industry. The population of India's textile industry has reached 35 million, and the average monthly wage of textile workers is about 200-250 US dollars, and the labor cost is relatively low.
In 2018, India launched a 60 billion rupee (approximately US $0.86 billion) textile industry stimulus plan to promote the development of India's textile, clothing and garment industry and strengthen financial support for small businesses. The signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) will enable India to gradually reduce tariffs on 80% of Chinese products. In the future, it is possible to "immediately eliminate tariffs" on 28% of goods from China, and gradually reduce tariffs on the remaining 72% of goods in 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. In addition, the Indian government has also introduced many support policies including "TUFS" and "SITP plan", including interest, financial subsidies, green process support and employee training.
Development of Industrial Textiles Industry in India in 2.
India's industrial textiles industry is one of the fastest growing areas of all its textile industries. It is mainly divided into 12 categories, with about 2200 enterprises. The main products are sacks, curtain fabrics, sports shoes materials, elastic belts and fishing nets.
According to relevant data from the Frankfurt India Company, the Indian industrial textile market will reach about US $16.6 billion in 2018, with an average annual growth rate of about 20%, and is expected to reach US $28.7 billion in 2021.The share of industrial textiles in India's textile value chain is currently only 13%.The five key high-value applications in the Indian industrial textiles market are packaging textiles (41.6 per cent), industrial textiles (11.3 per cent), household decorative goods (10.4 per cent), transport textiles (9.8 per cent) and industrial clothing and footwear (9.8 per cent).
The rapid development of industrial textiles in India also benefits from the change of Indian concept, the growth of domestic demand and healthy export trade demand. As an important part of industrial textiles, the consumption and export volume of nonwovens in India have increased significantly in recent years, and the annual growth rate of the nonwovens industry has basically remained at about 15%.In 2018, India's nonwovens production was about 500000 tons, of which spunbonded nonwovens accounted for about 45% of the total production.Unlike other emerging countries, the Indian government is very concerned about innovative nonwoven products, and the country has listed the development of the nonwovens industry as a national development plan, investing a lot of money in research and development in the industry. At present, the development of the industrial textile industry in India is still facing many obstacles, such as weak infrastructure, low personnel efficiency, difficult access to capital and so on.
Medical and health textiles.Products such as wipes, sanitary napkins and baby diapers are favored by the Indian market and have a large space for development. At present, many women in poor rural areas in India have not yet used sanitary napkins. The government is actively taking corresponding measures to promote feminine hygiene products in Dali. With the transformation of the sales model of diapers in Indian hospitals and retail institutions and the increase of disposable income, it will promote the rapid development of the diaper market.According to the forecast of relevant institutions, the market prospect of India's baby diapers is about 47 billion pieces.
Textiles for geotechnical construction. The Indian government plans to invest 100 trillion rupees (about 1.4 trillion US dollars) in infrastructure construction in the next five years, including transportation, airports, ports, bridges, communications, water conservancy and urban water supply and drainage. This provides a huge market space for geotextiles, geomembranes, geogrid, and waterproof tire base fabrics. In addition, India's defense, safety, health, roads and other infrastructure construction will also provide huge business opportunities for the industrial textile industry and enterprises.
