Vietnam imports fabric $4.1 billion in first 4 months of 2019

According to data from the General Bureau of Statistics of Vietnam, Vietnam's imports in April 2019 amounted to about US $20.6 billion, a decrease of 2.6 percent from March and an increase of 17.6 percent from the same period in 2018; among them, the amount of imports by Vietnamese-funded enterprises increased by 18.5 percent and the amount of imports by foreign-funded enterprises increased by 17 percent. Vietnam's cumulative imports in the first four months of 2019 amounted to approximately US $78.05 billion, an increase of 10.4 percent over the same period in 2018; of this, imports by Vietnamese-funded enterprises amounted to US $32.8 billion, an increase of 14.4 percent, and imports by foreign-funded enterprises amounted to US $45.25 billion, an increase of 7.6 percent.

In the first four months of 2019, 17 products imported more than US $1 billion, accounting for 76.3 per cent of the total imports, of which some products increased by 20 per cent over the same period last year, including electronic products, computers and their parts, US $15.8 billion 11.6 billion, up 15.2 per cent, cloth $4.1 billion per cent, steel $3.1 billion, up 3.9 per cent, plastics $2.9 billion, 3.9 percent growth; cars, $2.4 billion, 95.6 percent growth; plastics, $2 billion, 12.3 percent growth. In addition, imports of a number of products decreased compared with the same period last year, including various telephone sets and their parts at US $3.6 billion, a decrease of 15.5 per cent, and general metals at US $2.1 billion, a decrease of 9.5 per cent.
Regarding the import market, China remained Vietnam's largest source of imports in the first four months of 2019, with imports of US $22.3 billion, an increase of 18.8 percent over the same period last year; followed by South Korea's US $15.5 billion, an increase of 3.1 percent; ASEAN's US $10.8 billion, an increase of 9.2 percent; Japan's US $5.7 billion, a decrease of 1.4 percent; the EU's US $4.6 billion, an increase of 14.8 percent; and the US $4.2 billion, an increase of 14.3 percent.
The trade deficit in April 2019 was about $0.7 billion. The cumulative trade surplus in the first four months of 2019 was about $0.711 billion, with a deficit of $9.46 billion for Vietnamese companies and $10.17 billion for foreign companies (including crude oil).
