In our mask industry, BFE is short for Bacterical Filtration Efficiency in English (literal translation is bacterial filtration efficiency).BFE test refers to the biological filtration efficiency test of the filter material according to the US military standard MIL-M-36954C and ASTM F2101. The definitive testing laboratory is Nelson Labs in Salt Lake City, Utah. The industry has this laboratory test report as the standard.

The test uses Staphylococcus aureus with an average particle size of 3 microns, and is delivered to the test substance at a constant flow rate of 32L/m and a fixed pressure, and then colonies that can pass through the test substance are collected to judge the filtration efficiency of the test substance. The test also detects the pressure difference before and after filtration, that is, the amount of resistance.

If the number of colonies that can pass through the detection is less than 1%, the filtration efficiency will reach more than 99% and reach BFE99;

If less than 5% of the colonies can pass the test substance, thenIf the filtration efficiency reaches more than 95%, it will reach BFE95;

Less than 10% of the colonies that can pass the test substance, thenWhen the filtration efficiency reaches more than 90%, it reaches BFE90.
