Yao Mu: China Textile Industry Standard Setters Mobile Textile Encyclopedia

I believe everyone still remembers the SARS epidemic in 2003, which was a hard battle. At that time, a large number of medical staff were infected, and there was an urgent need for a medical protective clothing that could effectively isolate bacteria. On April 6, 2003, a core R & D team composed of 28 people successfully developed an effective protective clothing after more than 20 days and nights without sleep. This can be said to be the key to the victory of the SARS campaign. Academician Yao Mu, one of the team leaders who designed this protective clothing, is from Nantong. Today we will introduce to you the standard setter of China's textile industry, known as the mobile textile encyclopedia-Yao Mu.

In 2003, the "SARS" epidemic broke out. At that time, there was no medical protective clothing that could effectively isolate the "SARS" bacteria in China, and many medical staff were infected. At that time, the only equipment that could isolate germs was military anti-virus clothing, but the medical staff wearing anti-virus clothing could sweat about half a kilogram after working for 4 hours, and they could not work normally.

What kind of clothing can prevent poison and allow water vapor to pass through? Yao Mu, who was appointed in the face of danger, joined a core research and development team of 28 people, and based on past research results and through many experimental calculations, he and his team finally selected the key material for making protective clothing-polytetrafluoroethylene film.

On April 28, 2003, more than 20 days and nights of sleepless development of new medical protective clothing ushered in expert identification. After discussion at the meeting, the national standard of protective clothing was approved and implemented on the same day, which has never been seen in the world. On the night of April 28, the "SARS" protective clothing was put into mass production and delivered to Beijing Xiaotangshan Hospital on May 1. Since then, it has been supplied to the whole country.

In addition to the SARS battle, Yao Mu has participated in many important national development projects. At the beginning of the founding of New China, the textile engineering major lacked ready-made teaching materials, so he compiled and taught himself; when Hong Kong returned to the motherland, he was responsible for developing a new generation of military uniforms, allowing the soldiers to show the heroic and military power of the Hong Kong Garrison on the Luohu Bridge. Yao Mu's progress is always in line with the needs of national development.

As the pioneer of my country's clothing comfort research and the maker of many industry standards, Academician Yao Mu is proficient in all aspects of the entire textile industry chain. The "Textile Materials Science" compiled by him is a classic of this discipline. Won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, formulated nearly 20 national standards for textile materials and textiles, military standards, etc., and published more than 180 papers. In the face of achievements and honors, this "textile encyclopedia" in the eyes of the academic community and recognized by the industry "Everyone of Chinese Textile Materials" showed humility and indifference. As a native of Nantong, Yao Mu has always been concerned about the development of Nantong's textile industry.
