National Textile Exports Grow More Than 13% in RMB in July

According to the General Administration of Customs Statistics Express, from January to July this year, the country's total exports of textiles and clothing totaled US $151.74 billion billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.52 percent (a year-on-year increase of 4.54 percent in RMB), and the growth rate rebounded by 0.85 percentage points from the first half of the year. Among them, the cumulative export value of textiles was 69.38 billion US dollars, up 1.47 percent year-on-year (7.69 percent year-on-year growth in RMB terms), and the cumulative export value of clothing was 82.36 billion US dollars, down 3.91 percent year-on-year (2.03 percent year-on-year growth in RMB terms). In the first seven months of this year, the year-on-year growth rate of China's textile and clothing exports was higher than that in the first half of the year.

In the first seven months of this year, the year-on-year growth rate of China's textile and clothing exports increased by 0.81 and 1.02 percentage points respectively compared with the first half of the year.

In July this year, the national textile and clothing exports in the month were 27.51 billion US dollars, up 2.52 per cent year-on-year (9.41 per cent year-on-year in RMB terms). Among them, textile exports in the month were US $10.77 billion, up 6.19 per cent year-on-year (13.34 per cent year-on-year in RMB terms), while clothing exports in the month were US $16.75 billion, up 0.3 per cent year-on-year (7.03 per cent year-on-year in RMB terms).

 

Although the situation of Sino-US trade frictions has escalated since May this year, judging from the export performance of the industry in the first half of the year, the most important export market for my country's textiles and clothing is still the United States. From January to June, China's textile and clothing exports to the United States totaled 22.62 billion US dollars, down 0.66 percent from the same period last year. Affected by the tariff increase, China's textile exports to the United States totaled 7.29 billion US dollars, down 2.24 percent from the same period last year. As clothing products have not been included in the current tax increase list, the export amount in the first half of the year was 15.33 billion US dollars, a slight increase of 0.11 percent.

In addition, in the first half of the year, China's textile and clothing exports to Japan decreased significantly, down 4.65 percent from the same period last year, while the growth rate of clothing exports to Japan decreased by 6.11 percent compared with the previous year. At present, China's share of Japan's imports of textiles and clothing has dropped from 65% in 2015 to 55% in the first half of this year.

On the other hand, our industry's exports to Africa grew rapidly, achieving a year-on-year increase of 5.24, especially textile exports increased by 10.06; the amount of textiles and clothing exported to countries along the Belt and Road was US $44.799 billion, of which the export of textiles was US $30.334 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.23.%, the diversification of our industry's export market is emerging.
