CCPIT will help enterprises cope with technical barriers to trade

The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade will start product testing and certification consulting and agency work to help small and medium-sized enterprises deal with technical barriers to trade in exports.

Zhang Guofu, director of the Trade Promotion and Exchange Center of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said at a press conference held on the same day that in recent years, due to lack of understanding of foreign regulations, the export of Chinese products has frequently encountered technical trade barriers from developed countries, causing losses to enterprises even greater than anti-dumping and countervailing measures.

According to official data, in 2016, 34.1 percent of China's export enterprises were affected by technical barriers to trade, and the direct loss of export trade was nearly 50 billion US dollars. Among them, mechanical and electrical, mineral metals, wood paper, textile shoes and hats exports affected the most. By region, products exported to Europe and the United States are most affected by technical barriers.

Zhang Guofu said that the CCPIT launched the product testing and certification agency to help enterprises keep abreast of the latest information of export target countries, handle the required testing and certification in compliance, deal with technical barriers to trade and trade frictions, and promote the growth of foreign trade exports.

According to reports, the upcoming product testing and certification consulting agency work mainly covers three categories of products: machinery and electronics, textiles and clothing, and food and medicine. These are the main force of China's exports.

At present, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade has signed cooperation agreements with well-known European and American authoritative institutions such as the Alliance Committee of Independent Testing Laboratories of the United States, the Washington Laboratory of the United States, and the European Standards Consulting Center. Cooperation agreements will be signed in the first half of this year.

Zhang Guofu said that through cooperation with foreign institutions, the CCPIT will further help Chinese companies to connect with foreign advanced product standards, improve product quality, improve product competitiveness in developed countries' markets, and help companies open up markets in countries along the "Belt and Road" and stabilize foreign trade exports.
