Zou Zhiwu, deputy director of the General Administration of Customs of China, said in Beijing on the 20th that China's total foreign trade import and export volume has increased by 198 times in the past 40 years of reform and opening up, becoming one of the most important forces driving the growth of world trade. At present, 0.29 billion yuan (RMB, the same below) goods enter and leave China every 5 minutes.

Zou Zhiwu said at the 2018 National Forum hosted by China News Agency that thanks to reform and opening up, China's foreign trade has seen "miraculous growth" in the past 40 years, with an average annual growth rate of 14.5. At present, China has the largest export share of 1400 commodities in the world. The number of people who directly or indirectly drive employment by foreign trade is nearly 0.2 billion, and the proportion of foreign trade in global trade has increased from less than 0.8 per cent to more than 11 per cent.

He said that at present, 0.29 billion yuan of goods enter and leave China's customs every five minutes, four international ships offshore or leave Hong Kong, nine planes on international routes take off or land, 1120 containers, 5492 express shipments, 8655 items leave or arrive, 2.06 million integrated circuits, 17000 LCD panels, 10000 mobile phones, 88 metal processing machines leave China's customs, and 34000 cosmetics, 10,000 tons of iron ore sand and 4300 tons of crude oil entered China.

Zou Zhiwu said that at present, China's foreign trade has become "one of the most important forces" leading the growth of world trade ".

While the scale of China's foreign trade is expanding, the quality is also improving. Zou Zhiwu said that in the past ten years, China's foreign trade has gradually moved from a stage of rapid development to a stage of high-quality development, and the figure of "Created in China" has gradually emerged. In 1995, the export of mechanical and electrical products replaced textiles and clothing as the largest export commodity for the first time, marking the transformation of China's export commodities from labor-intensive to capital and technology-intensive. In 2003, the export of mechanical and electrical products accounted for "half of China's total export value" for the first time. In 2011, the export of mechanical and electrical products exceeded the trillion US dollar mark.

From the perspective of the main body of foreign trade, before 1992, the main body of China's foreign trade operations was only state-owned enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises. In 1993, private enterprises began to enter the historical stage. Zou Zhiwu said that from 2008 to 2017, the total import and export value of China's private enterprises increased from US $536 billion to US $1581.5 billion, an average annual growth rate of 12.8 percent, higher than the overall average annual growth rate of China's foreign trade import and export in the same period.

Zou Zhiwu said that in the future, the General Administration of Customs will further promote the integration of customs inspection, create a more advanced and internationally competitive customs supervision system and mechanism, and promote the modernization of the customs governance system and governance capabilities.
