On October 25, the Public Environmental Research Center (IPE) released the fifth annual report of the Green Supply Chain CITI Index in Beijing, showing that environmental big data has spawned innovative solutions and is helping a group of leading Chinese and foreign brands to develop green procurement on a large scale.

The CITI Index, first launched in 2014, is the world's first quantitative evaluation system based on the environmental management performance of the brand's supply chain in China. Among the 306 brands covered in this review, three American companies ranked first, with Apple ranking first with 84 points, Dell ranking second with 82 points, and Levi Strauss ranking third with 76 points.

Ma Jun, director of the Public Environment Research Center, said that Levi's, Nike, Samsung, Inditex and Taiji in the top 10 have linked their LOGO to the environmental performance of suppliers through green supply chain maps, highlighting their determination to strictly manage the supply chain environment. Other brands that have been mapped in this issue include Esprit,New Balance,Gap Inc., Puma, Adidas and Tesco.

This evaluation covers 142 Greater China brands, of which Foxconn, Esquel and Huawei rank highest. Huawei has been the highest-ranked brand in mainland China, while Landsea Green Group has also performed well. All four brands are listed in the TOP30 CITI index, which marks the world's leading green supply chain.

It is worth noting that in the ranking of the top 100 of the CITI index, the overall ranking of the textile industry has risen rapidly. For example, the C & A ranking has risen by 30 places, Nike has risen by 28 places, and Primark has risen by 23 places. However, there are also some textile industry enterprises ranking has declined, such as: Adidas fell 8, Puma fell 3.

In this evaluation, a total of 38 brands began to try ecological chain management. The networked and automated solution effectively saves management costs and achieves a significant improvement in the efficiency of green procurement management. During this evaluation period, domestic and foreign brands promoted 2458 supplier enterprises in China to communicate with environmental protection organizations on rectification and disclosure, of which 1206 enterprises confirmed their rectification compliance through independent third-party audit, up 280 year-on-year, highlighting the significant growth in the scale of green procurement.

At the same time, 25 leading brands such as Levi's and Dell also use ecological chain tools to promote their direct suppliers to comprehensively search their own supply chains, extend environmental management to chemical cellulose fibers, chemical dye additives and other chemical products, aluminum alloys, special steel, copper foil and other supply chains closer to raw materials, as well as centralize sewage treatment facilities and hazardous waste disposal providers, and promote these industrial enterprises to continuously pay attention to their own environmental performance.

This evaluation report recommends that government departments promote enterprises to implement information disclosure requirements, attach importance to the main role of enterprises in the construction of green supply chain, and extend the good practices of leading enterprises to more industries. At the same time, it is suggested to learn from the good practices of Chinese and foreign brands to promote the implementation of green procurement by governments at all levels. It is recommended that more Chinese and foreign brands use data and networking tools to improve the efficiency of green chain management; it is recommended that financial institutions incorporate green supply chain performance into green finance considerations; at the same time, it is recommended that third parties such as mass media and environmental protection organizations give more recognition to enterprises that actively carry out green chain construction and guide consumers to practice green consumption.
