China's total import and export volume in the first three quarters increased by 9.9 to 22.28 trillion yuan

According to the website of the Ministry of Commerce, on October 17, the head of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce introduced the operation of China's foreign trade in the first three quarters of 2018. According to customs statistics, in the first three quarters, my country's total import and export volume was 22.28 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.9 percent year-on-year (the same below); of which exports were 11.86 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.5 percent; imports were 10.42 trillion yuan, an increase of 14.1 percent; and the surplus was 1.44 trillion yuan, narrowing by 28.3 percent.
The person in charge introduced that in the first three quarters, foreign trade achieved rapid growth, the structure continued to be optimized, the power conversion was accelerated, the quality and efficiency were further improved, and the steady and positive trend was further consolidated, laying the foundation for the high-quality development of foreign trade.
From the perspective of the layout of the international market, while consolidating the traditional market, exports to emerging markets have maintained rapid growth, and the international market has been further optimized. Among them, exports to the BRICS countries and countries along the "Belt and Road" increased by 9.7 and 7.7, respectively, 3.2 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points higher than the average export growth rate.
The person in charge pointed out that from the perspective of domestic regional layout, exports from the central and western regions totaled 1.95 trillion billion yuan, an increase of 13.0 percent, 6.5 percentage points higher than the overall growth rate, and the proportion increased by 0.9 percentage points to 16.5 percent. Exports from the eastern region totaled 9.91 trillion billion yuan, up 5.3 percent, or 83.5 percent.
From the perspective of commodity structure, the export of mechanical and electrical products was 6.91 trillion billion yuan, an increase of 7.8 percent, and the proportion increased by 0.7 percentage points to 58.3 percent. Among them, the export of integrated circuits, automobiles and their chassis, mobile phones and parts and other products increased by 22.1, 16.2 and 10.7, respectively. The added value of exports of electromechanical products such as computers and components, integrated circuits, motors and generators was further increased, with export unit prices increasing by 9.6 per cent, 12.2 per cent and 9.5 per cent, respectively. Exports of seven categories of labor-intensive products, such as clothing and toys, were 2.29 trillion billion yuan, down 0.8 percent.
From the perspective of foreign trade business entities, private enterprises exported 5.68 trillion billion yuan, an increase of 9.6 percent, accounting for an increase of 1.4 percentage points to 47.9 percent, and continued to maintain their position as the largest business entity in exports. State-owned enterprises exported 1.25 trillion billion yuan, up 7.0 percent. Foreign-invested enterprises exported 4.93 trillion billion yuan, up 3.1 percent.
In terms of trade methods, general trade exports were 6.73 trillion billion yuan, an increase of 10.9 percent, and their share increased by 2.3 percentage points to 56.8 percent. Processing trade exports 3.75 trillion billion yuan, an increase of 1.9.
From the perspective of new foreign trade formats, the business environment for the development of new foreign trade formats has continued to improve. Cross-border e-commerce and market procurement trade have continued to maintain rapid growth this year on the basis of two consecutive years of rapid growth, becoming a new bright spot in foreign trade growth. On July 24, the State Council approved the establishment of new cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones in 22 cities including Beijing. On September 28, our ministry, together with relevant departments, launched the fourth batch of market procurement trade pilot projects in six markets in Zhejiang and other places, which will promote the development of new foreign trade formats on a larger scale and help to further play a leading role in promoting the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade.
The person in charge said that from the perspective of imports, driven by favorable factors such as persisting in expanding opening up, introducing policies and measures to promote import expansion, and reducing import tariffs, China's imports increased by 14.1 in the first three quarters, and the contribution rate to import and export growth was 64.2., Has become the main driving force for foreign trade growth this year. The import of mechanical and electrical products was 4.72 trillion billion yuan, an increase of 13.0 percent, driving the total import volume of the whole country to increase by 6.0 percentage points. Imports of cosmetics, fruits and dried fruits, which are closely related to people's lives, increased by 75.1 per cent and 30.2 per cent, respectively. Crude oil, natural gas, coal and other 10 categories of commodities together led to a 4.1 percentage point increase in imports.
From an international comparison, according to the latest import and export data of major economies released by the World Trade Organization from January to August, my country's import and export growth rate is higher than that of major economies such as the United States, Germany, and Japan.
